Chief Executive Officer

Judy Coleman
VP of Programs and Services

The VP of Programs and Services is responsible for all clinical services in the region including acute care, long term care, diagnostic services,emergency medical services, home care, mental health, primary health care and public health.  Focus on quality improvement and team-based planning and decision-making are integral to the delivery of all programs, as is the integration of services across the continuum of health care.

Judy Coleman is looking forward to the exciting and challenging time ahead as VP of Programs and Services.  Judy graduated from the Nursing Program in England in 1974.  Since immigrating to Canada in 1977, she has worked at the Health Sciences Centre in various positions including General Duty nursing and Nurse Manager.  In 1990 she moved with her family to Pinawa and since that time has worked mostly in management positions at the Pinawa Hospital, Lac du Bonnet PCH and the Health Centre and most recently as the Director of Acute Care for the Region.

Donna DeMarco
VP of Finance and Support Services

Donna joined the Regional Management Team as VP of Finance & Support Services in October 2005.  Prior to this, Donna served as Regional Financial Services Manager for 14 years. She obtained her Diploma in Business Administration from Red River Community College, Controllership Certificate from Certified General Accountants Association of Manitoba and most recently obtained her designation as a Certified Health Executive (CHE) from the Canadian College of Health Service Executives (CCHSE) in 2009.

The VP of Finance & Support Services is responsible for leadership, planning, and management of the support services division which includes finance, food services, housekeeping, laundry, materials management, and physical plant services (including capital budgets and construction and renovation projects).

Having worked in the healthcare industry since 1978, Donna has a keen interest and appreciation in all aspects of health care services.

Bonnie Frith
VP of Quality and Organizational Development

Bonnie joined the NEHA Management Team, as Manager of Quality, on January 4, 2000. A graduate from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Commerce, Health Care Administration, she brings extensive broad-based management experience to this position. Her professional Program Administration and Management experience includes a variety of environments: healthcare, retail, financial and manufacturing. Bonnie has worked in healthcare for the past 12 years and has been successful in leading health system organizations to Three-Year Accreditation Awards, including most recently the North Eastman Health Associations three-year Accreditation Award.

Since 1997 Bonnie has worked exclusively in the areas of Continuous Quality Improvement and Risk Management and has an ICA Canada Facilitation Certificate for Group Facilitation. She has been instrumental in the successful development and implementation of structure systems that have created organization wide participation in planning and implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement processes. This responsibility included quality outcomes and evaluation relevant to organizational philosophies, Mission, Vision and Values. She has a keen interest in Risk Management and has Risk Identification System experience.

Bonnie enthusiastically embraces team-based decision making, team building and empowerment of staff and stakeholders. She will be leading the North Eastman Health Association to develop and implement an integrated health system Quality Program.

VP of Medical Services

Dr. Bunmi Fatoye
Medical Officer of Health

Dr. Fatoye has been the regional Medical Officer of Health for North Eastman since May, 2006. Born in Canada and raised in Nigeria, she graduated from the University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1992. She obtained her certification in Family Medicine and fellowship in Community Medicine at the University of Manitoba. She continues to practice Family Medicine on a part time basis. She is married with two children.

Earl Slimmon
Director, Diagnostic Services (DSM Contract)

The Regional Director, Diagnostic Services is a member of the Diagnostic Services of Manitoba (DSM) and the North Eastman Health Association management teams.  In collaboration with the Discipline Medical and Technical Directors of DSM and liaison with the regional programs and management, Earl is responsible for managing, coordinating, implementing and monitoring standards, methodologies and procedures in Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging Services within NEHA.

Earl has over 25 years in supervision and management in Diagnostic Services most recently as Regional Director of Diagnostic Services in the Parkland Regional Health Authority. A background in Medical Laboratory and Radiology Technology, complemented with management training and experience, Earl has been involved in the planning and construction of new diagnostic facilities in Dauphin and Swan River as well as the implementation of new initiatives such as the first mobile ultrasound program in a Health Region in Manitoba, and establishment of the first Computed Tomography scanner outside of Winnipeg and Brandon.

Accepting the position with DSM/NEHA in January 2006, he has returned to the best area of Manitoba as he and his wife and three children have been transient residents of the Lac du Bonnet area since 1985 owning a cottage on the Lee River.

Brenda Neufeld
Director, Acute Care Services

Brenda served as the Care Team Manager for the Beausejour District Hospital from 1999 to August 2003.  Brenda graduated from the Misericordia Hospital Nursing Program in 1980. Brenda has spent most of her career in acute care settings including work at the St. Boniface Hospital, Tri Lake Health Centre and the Lynn Lake Hospital. For the past nine years she has worked in management positions at Lynn Lake and Leaf Rapids Hospitals. Brenda has made her home in the Lac du Bonnet with her family. Appointed as Director, Acute Care Services she looks forward to developing good working relationships with her colleagues and staff.

Jay Ferens
Director, Emergency Medical Services

Jay is responsible for the administration of six devolved ambulance services, a Northern Patient Transportation Program for the residents living north of the 51st parallel, and Handi-Van Paratransit Services within the Region. Jay is also responsible for "Community First Response Services" at various sites throughout the Region. As Emergency Preparedness Officer, he is responsible for Emergency Planning for both facilities and community programs.

Jay is a Paramedic Level II licensed with the Province of Manitoba. Jay has extensive experience in pre-hospital care administration. In 1986 he joined Beausejour and District Ambulance Service as an Ambulance Driver/Attendant. In 1992 he certified as a First Responder with the Province of Manitoba and in 1994 obtained First Responder Instructor status. Jay instructs the Emergency Medical Responder Program, both within the Region and with Red River Community College in the Continuing Education Department.

Jay is currently an Examiner with the Province of Manitoba for the Emergency Medical Responder Program. He is also an instructor/lab assistant of the Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic Program with the Manitoba Emergency Services College in Brandon.

Kathy Hanna
Director, Financial Services

Janice Sayer
Director, Information Systems Services

Janice has served NEHA as Director of Information Systems Services since April 2007.  She initially joined North Eastman as a Project Analyst in January 2004.  Janice is a graduate of the Red River College Information Systems Programmer/Analyst Program and was recently certified in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).  She is currently enrolled in the Red River College Health Services Management Certificate Program and also has educational preparation in Payroll Management.  Janice’s professional experience includes owning and operating her own Information Systems Business Solutions Company.  Janice is a member of the Chief Information Officers Council for the Regional Health Authorities of Manitoba and Manitoba eHealth.

Karen Stevens-Chambers
Director, Home Care Services

Karen has 21 years experience in the social services community with the last 15 years spent as a senior manager and Human Resource professional.  In addition to her undergraduate degree from the University of Winnipeg, she has a certificate in Human Resource Management from the University of Manitoba as well as numerous courses taken from their MBA program. In 2006, Karen joined NEHA as the Director, Home Care Services.

Karen is committed to volunteerism both professionally and personally having been a speaker for United Way and Agency Campaign Chair for 7 years.  She is a member of the Workplace Stress Coalition and has served as Board Member to several community organizations.  Karen has been a decade long resident of the Springfield community where she and her husband have and continue to raise their five children.

Brian Magnusson
Director, Human Resources

Brian is a seasoned human resource professional with many years of progressive and varied experience in Human Resource management, administration and systems. He has demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and management of payroll and human resources information systems; compensation and benefits development, costing and administration; policy planning, development and communication; employee staffing and recruitment; labour relations and contract administration/interpretation and legislative compliance programs related to Employment, Pay Equity and Workplace Health and Safety. Brian possesses a diverse background of experiences encompassing health care, private industry, and independent consulting.

Cheryl Lidfors-Karklin
Human Resources Manager

Cheryl Lidfors-Karklin grew up in the North Eastman region.  After completing high school in her home town of Pinawa, she attended University of Manitoba to obtain her Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree with a major in Industrial Relations.   Following graduation she worked for three years at the Toronto-Dominion Bank.

Cheryl welcomed the opportunity to return "home" in 1987 when she accepted the position of Business Manager at the Lac du Bonnet Health Centre.  Following health care regionalization in 1997, she obtained the position of Finance Manager for the northern sites.  In 2000 Cheryl made the switch from Finance to Human Resources and is presently the Human Resources Manager.  She enjoys the safety, security and recreational opportunities that come with rural living.

Lorraine Dent-Prychun
Director, Long Term Care Services

Lorraine Dent-Prychun is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Manitoba.  Throughout Lorraine's nursing career she has had the privilege of working in a number of nursing positions ranging from direct care (pediatrics and surgery), nursing educator, liaison with Manitoba Health and administrative positions in Home Care and Long Term Care.  Lorraine joined the North Eastman Health Association as Director of Long Term Care in May, 1998 and is very passionate about the care for frail older adults in long term care settings.  Lorraine recognizes today's challenges require not only staff with specialized knowledge and skills but also the support and commitment on the part of the director in developing and sustaining environments that are safe and home like and provide a variety of programs which enrich the quality of life of the residents and their families as they associate with the facility.  Lorraine is a life long learner committed to ensuring sustainable evidence-based improvement in safety and quality for our aging seniors.  Lorraine and her husband Brian are blessed with a wonderful family who enjoy visiting the North Eastman Region, exploring the many opportunities in nature for outdoor sports and activities.

Bridget Broek
Director, Materials Services

Bridget was appointed Director of Materials Services in December 2009.  She previously held the position of Purchasing Assistant for 9 years.  Bridget has worked for NEHA in various positions since 1998.  She has extensive knowledge and experience with contract negotiations, contract application and warehouse development and is currently enrolled in the Health Services Management Certificate program due to be completed in the spring of 2011. Bridget currently sits on the Regional Management Team, Infection Prevention and Control Committee, Produce Evaluation and Standardization Committee, Support Services Team as well as the provincial Regional Health Authorities of Manitoba Purchasing Program (RHAMPP) committee.

Sharon Bissonnette
Director, Mental Health Services

Sharon brings several years of experience, having worked in the Mental Health field since 1982. She is a University of Winnipeg graduate, with a Baccalaureate degree, Double Major in Psychology and Administrative Studies. She is also a certified Community Mental Health Worker (CMHW) and Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP). Highlights of her professional career include: the Coordination of Patient Services, Community Rehabilitation Services at Selkirk Mental Health Center; the development of Employment Development Counseling Services in the Interlake Region; and, the development of Intensive Case Management Services and Community Trauma Postvention Services for North Eastman. She is a member of the International Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services (IAPSRS) and previously served as a founding member, Secretary and Treasurer of the Manitoba Chapter, and participated in organizing the Canadian National Organization Founding Conference in 1999. She is a proud employee of North Eastman Health Association since 1997 and enjoys working within the many partnerships established, both inside and outside of the organization.

Allan Tardiff
Director, Physical Plant Services - North NE Region

Allan has been an electrician since 1974, he worked as construction electrician for 4 years, before moving over as an industrial maintenance electrician for Abibiti Paper Company.   He worked for the paper company for 9 years; while there he completed two Industrial Electronic courses and took Industrial Training for the controls in Refrigeration/Air Conditioning.  Allan began working at the Pine Falls Health Complex in 1987 to present, he has completed 15 years service in an acute care hospital,10 years experience in long term care and 7 years working with the Dialysis Program.  Allan has developed and implemented the maintenance and preventative maintenance programs,quail ity assurance and inventory control of all equipment in the Pine Falls Health Complex.  He is a member on the Workplace Health & Safety, Fire and Disaster and WHMIS committees.   He has also expanded his education and experience to include a Building Systems Technician Course, Refrigeration/Air Conditioning and an Effective Pneumatic Comfort Control workshop.  Allan is presently Director, Physical Plant Services of the North region for North Eastman Health Association which encompasses Lac du Bonnet,Pinawa, Pine Falls and Whitemouth health centres and personnel care homes.

Kelly Weidman
Director, Physical Plant Services - South NE Region

Debbie Viel
Director, Primary Health Care Services

Debbie graduated from the University of Manitoba with her degree in 1997.  She then began working as a Public Health Nurse/Northern Health Planner in the Blue Water District. Currently, Debbie is working on completing her Masters Degree in Community Health Nursing.  She is also a teaching assistant at the University of Manitoba and Co-chair of Wings of Power Family Resource Center in Pine Falls.

As the Director, Primary Health Care Services, Debbie is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the regional Health Promotion Activities. She must also work in collaboration with other community-based services in order to develop a comprehensive primary health care model for the North Eastman region.

Myrna Suski
Director, Public Health Services

Myrna is a registered nurse (graduate of Red River Community College). She has experience working in a variety of health care settings, acute, and long term care. For 10 years Myrna worked in the community as a Public Health Nurse for the Blue Water District. In 1997 she assumed the role of Public Health Program Supervisor in the North Eastman Health Region responsible for providing supervision and program direction to regional Public Health Nurses, Community Health Workers and the Diabetes Education Resource Team. She has completed university courses related to nursing and decision management. Currently, Myrna is Co-chair of the Provincial Network of Public Health Managers (since 1996) and an Active member of the Manitoba Public Health Association and NEHA Director, Public Health Services.

Brenda Rose-Wiebe

Brenda graduated from the University of Manitoba with Bachelor of Nursing in 1994 and immediately began her employment at the Pine Falls Health Complex as staff nurse in both Long Term Care and Acute Care.  Through regionalization in 1997, Brenda transitioned to the North Eastman Health Association.  In 2003 she became Team Leader at the Sunnywood Manor PCH, Pine Falls;  it was during that time that she discovered her love for the elderly and has not turned back since.

In September 2005 Brenda accepted a new role as Care Team Manager for both the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home (30 beds) and Sunnywood Manor Personal Care Home, Pine Falls (20 beds). Today, Brenda along with her staff, are dedicated to fostering a home-like environment for the residents , one that is filled with happiness, respect, excellent resident care and that also offers a positive, friendly working environment.

Tracey Dowse
Care Team Manager

Tracey graduated with her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Manitoba in 1985 after first completing 2 years in the Faculty of Arts.  She began her nursing career at St. Boniface Hospital in the Woman and Child Program and worked there on and off until 2008.  Throughout these years Tracey worked in various areas including postpartum/ newborn, labour and delivery and as the Perinatal Discharge Coordinator.  In between that time she was a clinical facilitator at the University of Manitoba working with 2nd year students at the Grace Hospital.  Tracey then went on to hold the position of Continuing Education Instructor, a position she held for 7 years.

For many years, Tracey and her family vacationed in the Lac du Bonnet area and had often considered moving out to northeast Manitoba.  In the summer of 2008, Tracey took on the role of Care Team Manager at the Pine Falls Health Centre and made the move to Pine Falls.

Glennda Gould

Glennda graduated from Health Sciences Centre (HSC) School of Nursing in 1982.  She worked at HSC on a general medicine ward from 1982 to 1984 when she moved to the central dialysis unit.  In 1989 Glennda worked in the transplant clinic following people who had received heart, lung, liver, and kidney transplants.  She married in 1989, and in 1990 moved to Lac du Bonnet and started working at the Pine Falls Health Complex.  In 1993, Glennda retrained for dialysis and worked in the dialysis unit until October 2002.  Following that she worked in Lac du Bonnet as the Public Health Nurse until taking her current position.
