Appointed 2004, Appointed Chair 2006. Margaret began her career in healthcare in B.C. as a Registered Nurse. Moving to Winnipeg she continued her career in healthcare at the Victoria General and the Municipal Hospitals. Margaret became the first Physical Standards Officer for Manitoba Driver Licensing when the program was introduced in 1972. Moving to Regina she became the Director of Materials Management at the Regina General Hospital and was selected as the Director for the new Regina Health District, which encompassed four city hospitals, Public Health, Ambulance Services and Personal Care Facilities. In that role, she represented the Health District on the SAHO (Saskatchewan Association of Health Care Organizations) Materials Management Committee that was responsible for Provincial group purchasing, Product Standardization and Product Evaluation. Margaret continues to act as a Healthcare Consultant.

Appointed 2007. Currently holds the position of Financial Advisor with Sun Life Financial Services. Steve has lived in Beausejour since 1991. Previous 22 years experience in commercial and agricultural lending and held several branch management positions in the banking and credit union movement. He holds a CFP designation, Certified Financial Planner. Previous volunteer and community service includes, past Secretary and Treasurer of the Beausejour and District Chamber of Commerce, current director and past President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Beausejour Lions Club and currently director of the Beausejour Lions Lodge Inc., past member of the Whitemouth Lions Club.

Virginia Mathews

Appointed 2004. After six years in banking, Virginia was employed at the Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment for twenty-three years by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and later by American Express as AECL’s Corporate Travel Coordinator. Retired since 2000, Virginia is an active volunteer in the community and is currently the Chairperson of the Lac du Bonnet Communities in Bloom Committee.

Robert Carmichael

Appointed 2007. Robert retired from the Province of Manitoba after 40 years of service; served as a cartographer with Intergovernmental Affairs. He moved to Beausejour December 1974. Robert was elected to the Beausejour Co-op Board of Directors in May 2004 and has served as Secretary of the Board since 2005. He obtained Level 2 Directorship through Federated Co-op. Robert was awarded the Investors Group Community Sport Achievement award in 1992. He was Director of Physical Science Component of MGEU for 5 years and held various positions at the Local, Component and Area level. Also coached Minor Hockey/Manager from 1974 to 1991. Won Junior B Provincial Title in 1989/90 Season as Manager of the Beausejour Comets. Presently involved with the Beausejour Blades of the MJHL.

Daniel Franklin Beausejour

Appointed 2006. Dan is currently a Provincial Correctional Officer and lives on a farm in the RM of Brokenhead. He is originally from Texas and of Cherokee heritage. Dan attended Texas Tech University and became an Advanced Level Paramedic Instructor/Coordinator. Dan worked as a Paramedic for privately owned EMS and hospital-based EMS and later operated his own EMS in Texas. He moved to Manitoba in 1989 and managed a Safety consulting business where he designed and instructed safety courses for several government agencies and corporations in Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario. He has extensive computer experience. Dan has served on the executive of the Beausejour Slo-Pitch (president for 6 years), and was also Manitoba's Executive Provincial Coordinator for Slo-Pitch National for 6 years. He has also served on executive of the Beausejour Curling Club and the Brokenhead River Recreation Complex. Dan is currently a member of the Honour Guard at his Correctional facility.

Ian Goodall-George Oakbank

Appointed 2009. Ian is a regional consultant with the provincial Dept. of Healthy Living Youth and Seniors and has lived in Oakbank for 11 years with his wife and two young kids. Ian served on NEHA’s District Health Advisory Council for 5 years from 2004 to 2009 and also is on the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Community Services Council and the Oakbank Kids Korner Daycare. Ian coaches soccer for his kids and plays indoor and outdoor soccer in Winnipeg and Birds Hill in his spare time.

Oral Johnston Little Black River

Appointed 2008. Oral has lived in Little Black River First Nation since 1977. He has served as Council member for three two-year terms with the health portfolio in his community, and was a strong advocate in health issues for all First Nations in Manitoba by membership with the Chief’s Task Force on Health. He is in pursuit of better health in his community.

Nursing career included Home Care, Respiratory Care, Palliative Care and Management positions. Formerly active in school activities (Home & School, Science Fair Coordinator), Church (Choir, Organist/Pianist, Worship Committee and Vestry), Sports Programs (official), and Nursing Organizations (Occupational Health, Gerontological Nursing).
Previous member of the NEHA Board of Directors and the District Health Advisory Council.

Appointed 2006. Teacher in Alternative Education Program at Mrs. Lucci's Resource Centre. Co-executive Director at Mrs. Lucci's Resource Centre. Karen also served as Administrative Assistant and member of the Lac du Bonnet Chamber of Commerce. She is a parent of two preschool children. |
Donna MacDonald

Appointed 2007. Donna and her family have lived in Dugald since 1997. Between 1984 and 2001, Donna worked in support services in numerous health facilities in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. After completing a BA in History and Labour Studies, in 2001, Donna served as a researcher for a health care union. Currently employed with the Province of Manitoba, as an Employment Standards Officer with the Department of Labour. Donna continues to be active in the union and labour movement serving as a Table Officer with the Winnipeg Labour Council. In January 2007 Donna was appointed as the Insured Persons Nominee on the Employment Insurance Board of Referees.

Work Experience: Employed as a Chemical Technologist in the Research Chemistry Branch, Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd.[AECL] from 1970 to 1998. Community Involvement: Currently on the Board of the Eastman Concert Association[EMCA],also a Board member of the Manitoba Rowing Association [MRA]. Formerly on the executive of the Whiteshell Cross Country Club as club president, trails chair person, coach and event organizer for the Manitoba Loppet and the Western Canadian Cross Country Ski Championships. Business Experience: Operated a small business, Photography by D. Owen 1992 to 2004.

Appointed 2005. Married and a resident of Pinawa for 32 years. Graduated 1975 from the University of Toronto (Personnel and Industrial Relations). Elected school trustee of Whiteshell School District (7 years). Project Coordinator of the Pinawa Heritage Sundial. Recipient, on behalf of New Friends Mentorship of the 2003 Premier’s Volunteer Award of Manitoba. Board Member of the Lac du Bonnet and Area Food Bank (founding member). Chairman of North Eastman Parent/Child Coalition. Board member of Two Rivers Seniors Resource Council. Member of Advisory Council for Healthy Child Manitoba, President of the Pinawa Lions Club. Barb enjoys playing timpani in the Pinawa Community Band.

Appointed 2008. Retired after 40 years with the Federal Government. During the last 20 years worked as a Project Manager responsible for the delivery of major office building, hospital, laboratory, penitentiary, customs, and housing projects from client identification to final commissioning across Canada (Ottawa, Vancouver, Winnipeg) and Internationally (Trinidad and Tobago). Harold and his wife have lived in the Beaches area since 1998 and are active members of the Victoria Beach Senior Scene Club.

Ulrich Wendt

Appointed 2010. Ulrich has recently retired from a career of over 34 years in strategic planning and policy development, of which 26 years have been in health systems. His experience has ranged over private consulting, non-government organizations, and municipal governments in Nova Scotia, Ontario, Saskatchewan and the Province of Manitoba. His most recent position was as Executive Director, Federal/Provincial Policy Support (Manitoba Health & Healthy Living). From that position, he retains an interest in healthy child development, social justice and federal/provincial aboriginal health jurisdictional issues.
Ulrich lives near Prawda on the beautiful Birch River where he canoes, cross-country skis, gardens, experiments with soil abatement and dotes on his two grandchildren.
